Charity Water. Successfully Implementing Email Marketing

Continuing on about digital marketing campaigns and how they have been successful, I have found the perfect example of an Email Marketing Success: Charity Water.

In 2012, Charity Water was faced with a challenge. They had been weary of tiring out their supporters with email spam and didn’t want to annoy them. Essentially they needed a new strategy to generate value with their emails. How did they do this?

In order to avoid being labelled as “spam” the team at Charity Water kick-started their campaign by asking individuals to “re-sign up” into their newsletters. This extra permission step gave them the confidence to send out mass emails more frequently.Clarity water Furthermore the emails created linked supporters to well designed content which engaged them and updated them on how their support was helping those in need of clean water.

I believe Charity Water was successful through their clarity of message and respect of their supporters. By asking for email permission, they were not spam. They essentially became a newsletter updating their supporters every step of the way, creating a connection between the subscribers and the content. The fundraisers were able to feel emotionally connected and inspired through the email campaign and increased donations by $800,000, all through email marketing and successful targeting.
